In the Community

Community engagement is at the heart of our mission, “to make live classical symphonic music accessible to audiences and fellow performers of communities and towns of North County Inland San Diego for their musical enjoyment and cultural and educational enrichment.” The Educational Outreach Program expands the orchestra’s impact beyond the concert hall and into classrooms, libraries and community spaces. Launched in November 2025, the program is funded in part by a grant from the Poway Community Foundation.

For additional information about how to participate, please contact the Poway Symphony Orchestra at info@powaysymphonyorchestra.org. Join us in building meaningful musical experiences that enrich our community.

Poway Public Library (February 2026)

“Symphony Storytime,” featuring live musical accompaniment to a children’s reading program. The PSO partnered with the Poway Branch Library to present a “Symphony Storytime” designed for young children. The program centered around the book “Because” by Mo Willems, a beautifully written story that follows the journey of a young girl who grows up to become a composer. The librarian led the reading while our musicians performed thoughtfully curated musical excerpts woven throughout the story. The book references music by Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert, and we incorporated selections by both composers, along with additional musical “surprises” that helped bring key moments of the narrative to life.

Gateway Senior Living  (May 2026)

“Musical Menu,” an interactive program in which residents enjoyed a unique musical "menu" featuring works from a variety of genres and eras. Centered around the theme of choice and discovery, the program invited residents to take part in shaping the performance experience. Each audience member received a “menu,” a thoughtfully designed program listing a variety of musical selections organized into categories such as Classical Era, Romantic Era, etc.  Through a random selection process, residents were encouraged to “order” pieces from the menu, allowing the ensemble to tailor the performance in real time based on audience requests.
