The Poway Symphony Orchestra opens its season with an all-Dvořák celebration of melody, heart and heritage. Inspired by his stay in the United States, Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 (“From the New World”) captures both the grandeur of American landscapes and the composer's Bohemian soul—one of the most beloved symphonies in the repertoire. The program also features Dvořák’s passionate and deeply lyrical Cello Concerto, widely regarded as the finest of its kind. Rising cello virtuoso Cello Guo brings both technical brilliance and emotional depth to this iconic work. A powerful and moving start to the season.

Elegant, expressive and brimming with Romantic spirit, this program features two masterpieces by Felix Mendelssohn. His dramatic Symphony No. 5 (“Reformation”) is filled with majestic themes and sweeping orchestral writing, culminating in a powerful finale. Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor is a jewel of the violin repertoire, known for its soaring melodies and virtuosic brilliance. The dynamic YuEun Gemma Kim, praised for her vibrant artistry, joins as guest soloist. This concert promises a rich blend of lyrical beauty and bold Romantic expression.
Celebrate America’s 250th birthday with a vibrant program of iconic works by 20th-century American composers. The concert includes Copland’s stirring Fanfare for the Common Man, the mystical beauty of Hovhaness’s Mysterious Mountain and Gershwin’s unforgettable Rhapsody in Blue (soloist TBA), blending classical form with jazz flair. Also featured are selections from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, Copland’s Rodeo (including the lively Hoe Down and tender Corral Nocturne), and Bernstein’s effervescent Overture to West Side Story. From sweeping vistas to urban rhythms, this finale concert captures the spirit, soul and story of America.
